Applications are now being accepted internationally in Shanghai, China, for the 2023 Shanghai Government Scholarship (SGS). The Shanghai Government Scholarship (SGS) 2023 at East China Normal University is a fully financed scholarship for foreign students to study in Shanghai, China. The Shanghai Government makes it accessible to foreign students from all around the world pursuing undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees in China (Shanghai Government Scholarship). The Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship (SGS) was established in 2006 with the goal of fostering the expansion of international education in Shanghai and luring more and more excellent overseas students and scholars to ECNU.

About Scholarship

The Shanghai Government Scholarship is available to outstanding international students applying to undergraduate, graduate, or Doctoral programs at East China Normal University. Undergraduate applicants with an HSK-3 level or higher but without a qualifying level are eligible to apply for a one-year pre-college program to study Mandarin with a full scholarship. If after completing the pre-college program the candidate is still unable to achieve the required HSK level, they will graduate as a language student.

Eligibility

1) Candidates must be healthy and non-Chinese nationals.

2) Education level and age limit:
▪Pre-college applicants must be under 23 and have a high school diploma.
▪
Candidates for bachelor’s degree programs must be under 25 and have a high school diploma.
▪
Anyone seeking a master’s degree must be under 35 and hold a bachelor’s degree.
▪
Candidates for doctoral programs must be under 40 and possess a master’s degree.

3) Students are not eligible to apply for SGS if they have received the Chinese Government Scholarship or any other scholarship provided by another organization.

Exempt from tuition fee, and accommodation on campus; provide comprehensive medical insurance and monthly living expense (Doctoral program: CNY3500; Graduate program: CNY3000; Undergraduate program: CNY2500)

2. Partial Scholarship (Type B)

Exempt from tuition fee, and provide comprehensive medical insurance.

Required Documents

The following documents are required for the scholarship program:

1.  High School Graduation Certificate
2. Complete High School Transcript
3. Language Proficiency Certificate
4. Exemption of English Proficiency Certificate:
(1) English is native language or official language
(2) Other equivalent English proficiency certificates (must be reviewed and approved by ECNU)
5. Letter of self-recommendation (500-800 words). Applicants of Chinese-taught programs should write in Chinese.
6. Photocopy of passport (including personal information page and Chinese visa pages)
7. Guardian’s Letter of Guarantee is required for applicants under 18 years old.

3. Applicant should register and apply online for Shanghai Government Scholarship (the institutional code of ECNU is 10269).  Submit online  application and download the application form.
