As part of the Contemporary Education Needs Initiative Support Program, APU was chosen by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) in the category “Developing Japanese who can Use English in the Workplace” (also known as Good Practice). This programme awards funding to remarkable projects for educational reform that address contemporary social needs.

APU’s educational project won the Excellent Practice award out of several Japanese universities working to revitalise higher education in the nation because of its distinctive academic strategy that meets societal requirements. About Scholarship

The scholarship is funded by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology and awarded to exceptional overseas students who are supported by APU (MEXT). The goal of this fellowship is to increase the international competitiveness of Japanese universities by fostering active international student exchange.

Eligibility Requirements

You must fulfil the following conditions in order to be eligible for the scholarship and study in Japan from another country:

To begin with, you must not be of Japanese descent and be a citizen of a nation with which Japan has diplomatic ties. Second, you have to be younger than 35 and have a minimum GPA of 2.30 on a scale of 3.00 from your most recent university.

Please be aware that this scholarship is not open to anyone who are currently on active duty or who are employed by the military as civilians at the time of application.

Also, chosen candidates must be able to travel to Japan during the APU-specified arrival window. Moreover, candidates cannot have previously been awarded a MEXT scholarship unless they have more than three years of academic research experience after the last payment of the prior MEXT scholarship grant. Moreover, candidates for this scholarship are not permitted to be candidates for another MEXT scholarship at the same time, nor are they permitted to hold another scholarship while enrolled at APU. Last but not least, recipients of this scholarship must have a “student” visa status in Japan.

✔Economy class air travel between the home country and APU at the beginning and end of the program

How do I apply for the Japanese Scholarship?

Please follow the instructions below to submit an application for a MEXT Scholarship:

1. The local Japanese embassy or consulate may be found here.
2. Check the local Japanese Embassy’s website. The MEXT scholarship can be found in the area for education / scholarships.
3. Download the MEXT scholarship application, then fill it out.
4. Submit the necessary paperwork to the Japanese embassy in your nation.
5. The Japanese Embassy will provide a written exam. This is a sample written test with answers that you can review.
6. After that, the candidates will be interviewed.
7. If you are successful, you will be notified through email or on the embassy website.
