Obtained a degree

Students must have a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.5 (on a scale of 4.0) or higher.

Linguistic proficiency in English:
◾ with a minimum overall TOEFL iBT score of 90
◾ a minimum overall IELTS Academic score of 6.5
◾ having an English EmSAT score of at least 1550.

Graduate Record Review (GRE)

For applicants applying with only a bachelor’s degree, a Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test certificate that is legitimate and standard (i.e., exam was administered at a physical test centre) and has the minimum scores shown below is required:

◾ verbal reasoning 150
◾ 150 for numerical reasoning
◾ writing analytically, 3.0
◾ purpose statement

Please provide the following details in an 800-word essay that explains why you want to pursue a graduate degree at MBZUAI:

◾ Why I’m applying to this university?
◾ Your educational and personal background and how it relates to the programme you are applying for
◾ Outstanding accomplishments, such as honours, distinctions, etc.
◾ A prospective student’s objectives
◾ Preferred field of study and future plans
◾ Research assertion

The research statement is a paper that summarises the possible research project an applicant is interested in working on and demonstrates why there is a research gap that the applicant would like to address during the course of his or her studies.

Referee endorsement

It will be necessary for applicants to suggest referees who can support their application. There should be a minimum of three (3) referees for PhD candidates.

Entry test 
Successful candidates will be invited to take an entrance exam that includes inquiries about the following subjects:

◾ maths programming for machine learning
◾ the entrance interview
◾ The MBZUAI faculty will conduct a technical interview with a few chosen participants.
