About Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship

The most famous higher education scholarship scheme offered by the Hungarian government, Stipendium Hungaricum, provides high-achieving foreign students with a strong academic record with access to a variety of courses. The scholarship aims to increase the international ties between the academic and research communities, internationalise higher education in Hungary, and foster the reputation and competitiveness of Hungarian higher education globally.

The programme was established by the Hungarian government in 2013 and is run by the Tempus Public Foundation under the direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

It is based on bilateral agreements for education between the governments of the sending nations and Hungary. It is accessible in more than 90 countries across five continents and draws tens of thousands of international students each year. More than 1200 full degree degrees, including part-time and doctoral programmes, are available to applicants, encompassing all areas of higher education.

The fact that more than 93% of the recipients of our scholarships said they would select Hungary once more is evidence of the program’s high quality and inspires us to broaden the scholarship’s application in the future.
