University of Tokyo, the applications are now being accepted for the 2024 intake. Submit an application for the University of Tokyo ADB Scholarship 2024 for the Fully Funded Scholarship to Study in Japan. Citizens of ADB’s developing member nations are eligible for a 2-year Fully Funded Master scholarship through the ADB Scholarship program. ADB offers up to 300 scholarships yearly.

Postgraduate possibilities are offered through the Asian Development Bank-Japan Scholarship Programme (ADB-JSP), which is funded by the Japanese government and administered by the Asian Development Bank. No application fee is required. Aside from It is a fully funded scholarship that pays for all costs. 

What is the Asian Development Bank - Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP)

The Asian Development Bank and the Government of Japan together fund and administer the ADB-JSP, which aims to give citizens of ADB member nations that are developing the option to pursue postgraduate study. Since 2000, the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences (GSFS) and its Division of Environmental Studies, which consists of six departments, have been chosen by ADB as recipients of allocations from the ADB-JSP fellowship. ADB-JSP students are accepted by the following departments.

▪ Department of Natural Environmental Studies.

▪ Department of Ocean Technology, Policy, and Environment.

▪ Department of Environment Systems.

▪ Department of Human and Engineered Environmental Studies.

▪ Department of Socio-Cultual Environment Studies.

▪ Department of International Studies.

▪ Graduate Program in Sustainability Science – Global Leadership Initiative.

Duration at University of Tokyo Scholarship

The scholarship is for one (1) year, with the possibility of an extension to the second year of study, if necessary. This extension is contingent upon the scholar continuing to perform at a level that the institute considers satisfactory.

For master’s programs, the maximum scholarship award period is two (2) years.

University of Tokyo Eligibility Requirements for ADB-JSP

▪ Be a citizen of nations  that are eligible for Japanese ODA scholarships and ADB borrowing;

▪ Not hold dual citizenship with any advanced nation;

Have been admitted to a master’s program at a designated institution that has been granted approval;

Hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent with excellent academic;

▪ Have at least two (2) years of full-time professional employment experience at the time of application;

To pursue studies, a candidate must be proficient in both oral and written English communication;

▪ Age at the time of application cannot exceed 35;

▪ Be in good health;

▪ Accept to stay in and work for at least two (2) years in their home country after finishing their studies under the program in order to support the growth of that nation;

▪ Not be an executive director, alternate director, member of management, staff, or consultant of ADB, or a close relative of any of the foregoing by blood or adoption, with the term “close relative” being defined as spouse, mother, stepmother, father, stepfather, sister, stepsister, brother, stepbrother, son, daughter, aunt, uncle, niece, or nephew;

▪ Not work for organizations that ADB-JSP has designated;

▪ Not to be employed or residing outside of his/her country of residence;

▪ Not registered in graduate programs before applying to ADB.

How to apply?

Follow STEPS down below to apply correctly for the ADB-JSP University of Tokyo:

STEP 1: Check your Eligibility by ADB-JSP here.

STEP 2: Find the professors with whom you want to work here.

STEP 3: Send in your application materials before the application deadline.

STEP 4: Only qualified applicants must submit supporting documentation for the ADB scholarship application (mid-February).

STEP 5: ADB-JSP informs you of the selection outcome  (May).

STEP 6: Entry into Japan with a student visa (late September).  On October 1st, 2024, the semester will begin.
